Practical Political Tips

In addition to starting and running two businesses, founding and managing Rawhide Boys Ranch for 35 years, working hard at being a good husband, father, and grandfather, I have taken pride in being an involved citizen and patriot. I ran for the Wisconsin State Assembly in 1963, losing by 114 votes to a strong incumbent. Last year I ran for the U.S. Senate. I ran because I am concerned about the future of freedom in America. If you're concerned, here's what you can do to let your opinions be heard.

GET TO KNOW first hand your local city or town political representative or candidates. Call them up and ask to meet with you for a cup of coffee. Have a list of questions or concerns - ask them where they stand. Or have a "coffee" at your house with neighbors, and have your representative in so everyone can get to know them. They will come - they want to get elected, or reelected.

CANDIDATES FOR ANY OFFICE want to share their views, and you should get to know them before you vote. Plan a candidates forum at your service club, place of business, or church. Invite all the candidates running for office and have them share their views. Have prepared questions of interest to you and your group for each of them to answer.

ATTEND a city council or town board meeting (They are ALL open to the public). Go to a school board meeting… and not just when you're upset about something. Go anytime.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR of your local paper are effective. You will be surprised how many people read them.

LETTERS TO POLITICAL LEADERS are also very effective. You would be surprised how many people complain but do nothing. Sometimes a half dozen letters opposing an issue gets results.

JOIN A POLITICAL PARTY and volunteer some of your time to assist in their activities.

VOLUNTEER TO HELP A CANDIDATE you would like to see elected or reelected.
